For those who don’t know:
A Death Note is a fictional object from the Japanese manga and anime series “Death Note,” created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The Death Note is a supernatural notebook that grants its user the ability to kill anyone simply by writing the person’s name in the notebook, while picturing their face.
Key Rules of the Death Note:
- Name and Face: The user must know the person’s name and face to kill them. Simply writing the name without knowing the face will not work.
- Cause of Death: If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person’s name, that cause will happen. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.
- Details of Death: After writing the cause of death, the user has 6 minutes and 40 seconds to write the details of the death.
- Ownership: The Death Note can only have one owner at a time. If the Death Note is lost or stolen, the original owner loses ownership rights.
- Shinigami: The Death Note is originally owned by Shinigami (death gods). A Shinigami can extend its own life by writing human names in the Death Note, but humans cannot gain this benefit.
- Memory Loss: If the owner of the Death Note loses possession of it or gives it to someone else, they lose all memories related to the Death Note.
The series explores the moral and ethical implications of such power, focusing on the character Light Yagami, a high school student who finds a Death Note and decides to use it to rid the world of criminals, aiming to create a utopia with himself as the god-like figure known as “Kira.”
